The mentally ill are the most vulnerable in our society. Our client was arrested in Virginia and extradited to Louisville on a warrant for first-degree robbery. He was looking at 10-20 years in prison with a statutory mandate of serving at least 85% of his sentence.
The only problem was that he was innocent, had never ever been in Kentucky, and on the date and time of the robbery he was in a mental hospital receiving treatment for his mental illness.
